Cop15 Biodiversity Conference Montreal 19/12/22


If you have been following the Cop15 Montreal Biodiversity Conference. The aims have now been released as per below:


Congleton is already ahead of the game with the ambitious plans set out by Trees for Congleton. They are already addressing aim number 12!


Goals and targets for ambitious action by 2030 and 2050 The agreement has been likened to that of the Paris Agreement but for biodiversity.


The Kunming-Montreal biodiversity agreement includes key global targets to:

1)Restore 30% degraded ecosystems globally (on land and sea) by 2030

2)Conserve and manage 30% areas (terrestrial, inland water, and coastal and marine) by 2030

3)Stop the extinction of known species, and by 2050 reduce tenfold the extinction risk and rate of all species (including unknown)

4)Reduce risk from pesticides by at least 50% by 2030

5)Reduce nutrients lost to the environment by at least 50% by 2030

6)Reduce pollution risks and negative impacts of pollution from all sources by 2030 to levels that are not harmful to biodiversity and ecosystem functions

7)Reduce global footprint of consumption by 2030, including through significantly reducing overconsumption and waste generation and halving food waste

8)Sustainably manage areas under agriculture, aquaculture, fisheries, and forestry and substantially increase agroecology and other biodiversity-friendly practices

9)Tackle climate change through nature-based solutions

10)Reduce the rate of introduction and establishment of invasive alien species by at least 50% by 2030

11)Secure the safe, legal and sustainable use and trade of wild species by 2030

12)Green up urban spaces.
