Dear sir/ madam,
There will be a winter of huge discontent ahead of us with rising energy costs as well as the cost of living. The only party that has called for the nationalisation of the UKs five energy companies in order to tackle this enormous issue is the Green party.
We have heard deafening silence from Westminster since the release of the projected energy costs. Liz Truss has proposed we ask our GP for a letter to send our energy company telling them we can not afford to pay and Rishi Sunak states he will have the UK self sufficient in energy by 2045.
The Green Party has suggested nationalising these companies could reduce the cost to the average household energy bills by more than £2,000, which is the only effective way of tackling this crisis. it will cost the tax payer 2.8billion to bring the top 5 back into public ownership.
By bringing the big five energy retail companies into public ownership, setting the price of energy at an affordable rate and absorbing the global price rises, the government could make sure everybody can afford to get through this cost-of-living crisis.
At the same time, it will mean this public service will be able to be run in the public interest, instead of in the interest of profit making, which is why we are in this predicament now.
Nearly half of Tory voters support the renationalisation of Britain's energy industry in the face of the cost-of-living crisis, a new poll has found. According to a YouGov survey, 47 per cent of those who intend to vote Conservative at the next election are in favour of returning energy companies to public ownership. This compares to 28 per cent of Tory voters who are opposed to renationalisation, and 25 per cent who are not sure.
Gas and electricity bills for a typical household are rising to £3,549 a year on 1st October. It is widely expected that average bills will soar even further in the coming months, with one estimate suggesting they could even reach an eye-watering £7,600 a year from April.
There is so much that can be done right now to protect households from astronomical prices hikes, the problem of course is these prices do not affect the super rich that have all the power.
Kind regards
