Gardening for Wildlife on Instagram

If you are on Instagram give me at follow here at gardeningforwildlife .congleton, where I share hints on tips on making your garden friendly. Gardens cover a huge portion of land use in the UK, we can provide a nature haven on our doorsteps to help boost biodiversity. We just need to follow a few simple rules:

Never use pesticides/herbicides/insecticides

Leave the leaves (throwing leaves into our brown bins means we are throwing away a winter blanket habitat for invertebrates. Instead put on garden borders as mulch, make leaf piles, compost)

Create access- create a hedgehog highway under your fence so wildlife can access your garden to forage for food

Provide a water source, it doesn't have to be huge. Everything needs water to survive so provide a bird bath, a shallow bowl of water, pond, Belfast sink. Always ensure access is available to get out of ponds.

Plant nectar rich planting for pollinators. Bedding plants provide nothing of use to our dwindling pollinator populations. So providing nectar rich sources are far better, like herbaceous perennials, fruit trees etc
