I’ve been busy putting up bird boxes ready for the nesting season.
I’ve been and brought some to put up in Mossley Primary School woods so the children can see the birds nesting this year.
It’s very important to place the box facing north-north east (away from the afternoon sun), at least 3 metres from the ground to avoid predators and away from bird feeders.
Also never interfere or be tempted to look in nest boxes you know are in use. Parent birds can abandon nests that are interfered with.
Bird populations are struggling massively this year due to avian flu. The UK now have 70 red listed ( critically endangered to extinction) UK native birds. It really is imperative we do all we can to help them. 💚 🐦
