Dear sir
During the cost of living crisis we are facing, it has struck me that the price of school uniform is extremely high. My own daughter’s uniform has cost £120 including shoes. This is not something that is affordable on any low income budget. There is also the huge environmental impact from the wasted uniforms.
The Congleton Green Fayre, taking place on Saturday 24th September, is holding a clothes swap for children’s clothing aged 0-5years. What a wonderful idea from the volunteers implementing this. Well done to them.
This idea could be broadened across to uniform swapping, either on sites at schools or perhaps even the town hall.
I have seen an initiative in Wirral where a charity recycles great quality pre-loved uniforms. They collect donated uniforms for all their local schools, sort them and parents can collect/request what they need. They then give them away for free.
If there were anywhere local that can commence this initiative I would be happy to volunteer to help.
Each tonne of clothing reused, as opposed to being thrown away, equals a saving of 7 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. Being sustainable and driving a real change towards clothing and ecological integrity is a huge focus for the future.
Many thanks
Lisa miller
